Multi-sensor Fusion through Adaptive Bayesian Networks

2011

Common sensory devices for measuring environmental data are typically heterogeneous, and present strict energy constraints; moreover, they are likely affected by noise, and their behavior may vary across time. Bayesian Networks constitute a suitable tool for pre-processing such data before performing more refined artificial reasoning; the approach proposed here aims at obtaining the best trade-off between performance and cost, by adapting the operating mode of the underlying sensory devices. Moreover, self-configuration of the nodes providing the evidence to the Bayesian network is carried out by means of an on-line multi-objective optimization.

Contributed discussion on article by Pratola

2016

The author should be commended for his outstanding contribution to the literature on Bayesian regression tree models. The author introduces three innovative sampling approaches which allow for efficient traversal of the model space. In this response, we add a fourth alternative.

Learning Bayesian Metanetworks from Data with Multilevel Uncertainty

2006

Managing knowledge by maintaining it according to dynamic context is among the basic abilities of a knowledge-based system. The two main challenges in managing context in Bayesian networks are the introduction of contextual (in)dependence and Bayesian multinets. We are presenting one possible implementation of a context sensitive Bayesian multinet-the Bayesian Metanetwork, which implies that interoperability between component Bayesian networks (valid in different contexts) can be also modelled by another Bayesian network. The general concepts and two kinds of such Metanetwork models are considered. The main focus of this paper is learning procedure for Bayesian Metanetworks.

Analysis and modeling of wind directions time series

2013

This work aims at studying some aspects of wind directions in Italy and supplying appropriate models. A comparison is presented between independent mixture and Hidden Markov models, which seem to be appropriate as far as the series we studied.

Gaussian component mixtures and CAR models in Bayesian disease mapping

2012

Hierarchical Bayesian models involving conditional autoregression (CAR) components are commonly used in disease mapping. An alternative model to the proper or improper CAR is the Gaussian component mixture (GCM) model. A review of CAR and GCM models is provided in univariate settings where only one disease is considered, and also in multivariate situations where in addition to the spatial dependence between regions, the dependence among multiple diseases is analyzed. A performance comparison between models using a set of simulated data to help illustrate their respective properties is reported. The results show that both in univariate and multivariate settings, both models perform in a comp…
